THE CHALLENGE

Lassen Park Foundation’s website was overdue for a refresh. Their original website was not responsive for mobile, the navigation was overcomplicated with long lists of sub pages, and the design was busy with many borders and textures. All of these aspects made the user experience overwhelming and tedious. They were looking for a brand new responsive and ADA compliant website that captured the natural beauty of the park and encouraged users to donate. When asked what makes the park special, a stakeholder answered “When you’re there, it feels like your own park because there isn’t a high volume of traffic. You can go there and get lost and not see a single soul all day... like you have the whole place to yourself”.

THE SOLUTION

We took that narrative to heart on the redesign and created a userflow on the homepage that feels open and boundless, like you are exploring through the park. Each section seamlessly transitions to the next instead blunt sections stacked on top of each other. We also included clear donate call-to-actions throughout and listed additional options on how to support the cause to encourage the user to get involved. Lastly, we significantly decreased the amount of pages on the site by including a sticky anchor link side bar on interior pages. This allowed for a longer page with more sections while providing an easy way for the user to jump to specific information.
